Whitepaper: Regulation meets Market Evolution - Changing Face of OTC Derivatives Trading

July-2011 marks the first anniversary of Dodd Frank Wall Street and Consumer Protection Act [DFA]. It was exactly over a year ago, DFA mandated the usage of electronic trading platforms or exchanges among other things for trading “standardized over-the-counter [OTC]” derivative contracts in order to enhance transparency, prevent market abuse and mitigate systemic risk arising out of OTC derivatives market transactions. In this context, this paper aims to unravel the convergence of sweeping global derivatives regulations and evolving landscape of OTC trading and execution models. Various models of OTC trading and execution are examined alongside outlining the key desirable features of an organized OTC derivatives trading platform.
